ALL CHANGE IN MARA The familiar geography of Mara Diocese will soon be split into three separate dioceses - Rorya, Tarime and new Mara. The Rev John Adiema was consecrated as Bishop of Rorya on the 27 June and the Rev Dr. Mwita Akiri as Bishop of Tarime on the 4 July. Because of this change there are many administrative changes to be considered and this cannot happen overnight. The Mara Link Committee is in discussion with parishes like the Upper Holme Valley Team, which find their links in the new dioceses or Rorya and Tarime. On Sunday 18 July there was a three diocese meeting at the Treacy Hall in Wakefield to discuss all aspects and implications of the three new dioceses. Many of the parishes present at the meeting had fairly new links with their villages and were of the opinion that they would probably stay with them during the transition year and beyond. However the Upper Holme Valley have had a long and successful link with Kagwa and the Committee felt that perhaps now was the time to move on and support another village. We have helped Kagwa in many ways, providing help with the cost of building their church and providing them with items such as mosquito nets for the village, books, pens, craoyons, chalk, footballs and many other items for the school and also bandages, first aid items and candles for the dispensary as well as item for the vicarage. Through Water Aid Kagwa will also be getting a well for the village. More news on this will follow. For now, please keep the people of Mara and Kagwa in your prayers during this period of transition.
Mara: a new project with the charity Pump Aid. The aim of the project is threefold:
A pump will cost about £250 and a toilet £10. There are also the costs of health education and training on top of the capital expense. Any financial help would be very greatly appreciated. Please do continue to pray for our link diocese, giving thanks for the last 20 years and looking forward to the next 20! |
